Finish can affect appearance, fit, corrosion behaviour and handling. Use the interactive study to explore a direction, then define the actual surface requirement in your enquiry.

THE SURFACE STUDY
As machined
A metal surface retaining a fine machining character. Tool direction and cosmetic faces need agreement.
Bring into the specification
Exact grade and condition
Visible faces and appearance reference
Critical interfaces, masks and final dimensions
Rendered appearance reference. Colour and texture on screen are not a physical sample or an acceptance standard.
FINISH SELECTION
Specify more than a colour.
The right route depends on the substrate, geometry, function and required final condition. Availability is reviewed for the order.
01 / METALS / MACHINED POLYMERS
As-machined
Tool marks and machining direction remain part of the surface. Identify visible faces, edge break and any roughness call-out rather than relying on “standard finish”.
Agree before production
Mark cosmetic surfaces and the features that must retain their final dimensions.
02 / COMPATIBLE METAL PARTS
Bead blasting
Creates a more uniform matt appearance. Media, texture, visible-face treatment and the sequence before a coating need agreement.
Agree before production
Protect critical threads, bores and interfaces where blasting is not permitted.
03 / SUITABLE ALUMINIUM ALLOYS
Anodising
Specify the intended appearance, colour reference, required coating properties and the surfaces to mask. The underlying alloy and preparation affect appearance.
Agree before production
State whether critical dimensions apply before or after treatment. Use a physical reference where colour consistency matters.
04 / COMPATIBLE METALS
Brushing & polishing
Describe the direction, texture and visible areas. A polished or brushed finish can change the appearance of edges and local details.
Agree before production
Provide an approved appearance sample or a clearly defined reference when the visual result is important.
05 / SELECTED STAINLESS STEEL
Passivation
Review the selected material and treatment requirement, including any specified standard, cleaning condition or documentation.
Agree before production
Request the exact process and record needed for the application; do not treat every stainless finish as equivalent.
06 / COMPATIBLE METAL COMPONENTS
Powder coating
Specify colour, texture, gloss and functional requirements. Coating thickness, grounding/contact points and hardware sequence affect the finished part.
Agree before production
Mark threads, locating faces and other surfaces that need masking. Agree inspection after coating.
07 / MATERIAL AND PROCESS DEPENDENT
Plating & specialist coatings
Identify the substrate, coating system, thickness and required function. Decorative appearance, wear resistance and conductivity can require different systems.
Agree before production
Include application restrictions, masked features and any required testing or traceability in the enquiry.
08 / SELECTED POLYMER PRINTING ROUTES
Printed-part finishing
Support removal, cleaning, curing, dyeing and cosmetic work depend on the printing process and material.
Agree before production
Identify the visible side, support-contact restrictions and the interfaces that must fit after post-processing.
CRITICAL INTERFACES & COSMETIC FACES
Mark what must stay right.
Identify visible faces and the acceptable appearance reference.
Mark masked threads, contact points, bores and locating surfaces.
State whether dimensions apply before or after treatment.
Agree a physical sample or first-part appearance check when required.
Separate a rendered colour idea from an approved material/finish sample.
The on-screen model is a concept study. A display, lighting setup or render cannot establish an exact production colour, texture or coating thickness.
